An ex factory worker of the popular chocolate brand Cadbury, has received compensation of £100,000 after contracting Mesothelioma - The cancer more commonly related to asbestos.
After working for the firm for 8 years, Brian Harrison had noticed breathing difficulties whilst undergoing swimming activities. He was then told in 2009 that he was suffering from the deadly disease.
Doctors asked if he had come into contact with any asbestos, where he first told them he hadn’t, until remembering the working conditions at the Bourneville factory in
Throughout the 8 years when Brian had been working there, he stated that he had in fact been exposed to it.
On speaking to solicitors about the matter, it was found that Cadbury couldn’t have known about the volume of Mr. Harrison’s exposure, and that it would be of risk to him becoming ill with Mesothelioma. The defence also put forward the point that even the slightest exposure of asbestos could still cause the cancer.
